A Genius Performance by Simon Callow, Edward Petherbridge and Prunella Scales! These wonderful BBC Radio 4 productions are of exceptional quality.
The first play - An Englishman Abroad is set in 1958, and in a threadbare flat in Moscow, double-agent Guy Burgess, played perfectly by Simon Callow, is hiding from the world. When he is visited by actress Coral Browne, his delight at an old friend is overpowering. Starved for information by his new masters, Burgess interrogates her about English society gossip.
The second play - A Question of Attribution - sees Sir Anthony Blunt, brilliantly played by Edward Petherbridge, inspecting the Queen's art treasures. At home in the corridors of Buckingham Palace, he frequently encounters Her Majesty as he works on her paintings, and has a special fondness for a specific Titian. Bennett opens the issue of the fake. Blunt suggests that this picture is a fake. What will the Queen, played with great style by Prunella Scales, say when confronted by the facts?
